1. The attitude toward the acceptability of women in the board of directors
of any organization becoming work-related attitudes which generally there is a
prejudice and discrimination for women to be acceptable for the said post.
2. The perception towards women’s capabilities has completed all three (3)
basic components of attitudes. Basically, the proponents of this perception
believe that women are slow and emotionally not stable to be a member of the
board of directors. This statement satisfies the basic requirement of attitude
which is cognitive component. In the next level which is evaluative component,
a proponent will evaluate that a board of directors with women as a part of the
members, will always not effective and very complicated to deal with.
Therefore, in the behavioral component, the proponents will try to avoid women
as a member of board of directors.
Since there is a pressure from the society
on the sex-role stereotypes in which a narrow minded will believe that only a
certain job will be suitable for a certain gender, therefore it will
persistently push the proponents to adding up a certain requirement to make
their attitude becoming more relaxed. Therefore they proposed women to have MBA
in order to be reliable as a member of the boards.
3. However, studies have proved that women are at the same par with men
provided that both are having the same input and background. Based on this
argument, the opponents of the mentioned perception rejected the idea of having
MBA as a requirement to be a board-ready.
4. The opponents also believe that a strong networking, a life-long
learning (not necessary by having MBA) and charismatic personality are required
in order to be a leader. These three (3) conditions are all applicable for both
board candidates either they are men or women.
5. Therefore an MBA is not a requirement for women to have it in order to
be a board-ready. An MBA is not a balancer for women to be at the same par with
men. Scientifically a woman is similar to a man in term of mental capabilities
and capacities. Therefore any requirement for women is also applicable to men
and there is should be no bias, prejudice and discrimination in the judgment.
